Scope and Contents
Captain Arthur M. Ford wrote to Representative George B. Schwabe urging the consolidation of the armed forces under a single Department of National Defense to increase efficiency and be better prepared for potential attacks. Representative Schwabe responded, stating that the issue is not settled in Washington and he will consider the proposal when it is presented to Congress. Schwabe thanked Ford for sharing his views and expressed interest in finding a solution that is in the best interest of the country.
