Scope and Contents

Mrs. Swan writes a letter to Congressman Schwabe expressing her struggles as a mother with her husband serving in the military and her concerns about the retention of servicemen. Congressman Schwabe responds, expressing sympathy for Mrs. Swan and her situation, and explaining his efforts to pass legislation allowing servicemen to be discharged. He criticizes the New Deal majority in Congress for not passing such legislation and expresses concern about the influence of the military authorities on the government.
