Protecting Our Youth: A Plea for the Safety of Young Soldiers, 1945-04-11
Scope and Contents
Miss Rosena E. Fickett wrote a letter to Congressman George B. Schwabe on April 11, 1945, expressing her concerns about the use of 18 to 20-year-old boys in combat in the European and Pacific theaters of war. She urged Schwabe to ensure that these young boys are given a break before being sent back into combat. Schwabe responded on April 20, 1945, expressing his agreement with Fickett's views and assuring her that he is doing everything he can to protect these boys. Schwabe also encouraged Fickett to reach out to him if she needed any further assistance.
