Scope and Contents

The letter is from George B. Schwabe, a congressman, to A. F. Versen, the Secretary of the St. Louis Local Meat Packers Association, expressing opposition to O.P.A. extensions and price controls. Schwabe believes in letting the law of supply and demand control prices and opposes planned economy and borrowing money for subsidies. The attached telegram from Versen to House conferees urges them to exempt live stock and meat from O.P.A. controls and subsidies, citing abundant meat supplies and the success of free enterprise in distributing meat. Schwabe requests Versen's help in convincing the conferees to remove controls on live stock and meat.
