Reducing Bureaucracy and Appropriations: Correspondence with George B. Schwabe, 1946-05-10

Scope and Contents

The letter is from George B. Schwabe, a member of the House of Representatives, responding to a letter from constituents urging him to free industry and agriculture from wartime restraints, abolish the Office of Price Administration, and reduce departmental appropriations to cut down on overstaffed personnel. Schwabe expresses his opposition to the Office of Price Administration and bureaucracy in general, stating that planned economy cannot work successfully under a system of free enterprise. He appreciates the views of his constituents and thanks them for their interest.
