Concerns Regarding H.R. 2403: A Letter Exchange Between Ben Carpenter and Congressman George B. Schwabe, 1945-06-09
Scope and Contents
Ben Carpenter thanks Congressman George B. Schwabe for considering his concerns about H.R. 2403, the peyote bill. Schwabe assures Carpenter that the bill will not be a concern during the current session of Congress, and possibly never again. Schwabe mentions meeting with Osage Indians and Representative Curtis, who introduced the bill, and states that further consideration of the measure has been abandoned. Schwabe expresses appreciation for Carpenter and the Osages sharing information about their religious ceremonies involving the herb, and assures Carpenter that he will do his best for the Native American community. Carpenter also requests information about a national charter filed at the Department of the Interior.
