Scope and Contents

The Osage Nation of Indians filed a claim against the United States for the market value of land ceded in a treaty in 1865. The Osage Nation contends that the consideration paid by the United States was significantly lower than the market value of the land, and seeks compensation for the difference. The Osage Nation does not seek recovery of funds placed in a "civilization fund" for the benefit of all Indians, but rather seeks compensation for the specific land ceded in the treaty.
