Defending Tribal Sovereignty: A Letter to Congressman Jones from the Citizen Band Potawatomi Indians of Oklahoma, 1979-05-21
Scope and Contents
The Citizen Band Potawatomi Indians of Oklahoma are opposed to legislation that would place Indian country in Oklahoma under state jurisdiction without tribal consent. They believe this would contradict the rights, responsibilities, and authorities of Indian tribal governments. They are requesting that this planned legislation be discarded and that the rights and jurisdictional authorities of Indian tribal governments in Oklahoma be reaffirmed.
