Scope and Contents
The document consists of a series of letters between Congressman Carl Albert, Jay Basolo, and divisions of the Department of the Interior (the Bureau of Land Management, the Geological Survey, and the Bureau of Indian Affair) discussing the appraisal of coal lands in Oklahoma sold to the Sheffield Steel Company. According to the Geological Survey, the appraisal of the coal lands was based on the future royalties of the estimated tonnage of coal contained in the tracts involved.
