Scope and Contents

Dode McIntosh, a Creek Indian chief, criticized the release of a report on the Chilocco Indian School, alleging mistreatment of students. U.S. Rep. John N. Camp visited the school, expressing surprise at the report's contents. McIntosh and Camp called for accountability and better use of funds in investigating the allegations. The Five Civilized Tribes passed a resolution opposing the transfer of the school to a private operator. U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs Robert L. Bennett visited Oklahoma to address the situation.
