Scope and Contents

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is investigating allegations of physical mistreatment at Chilocco Indian School. The Superintendent and Principal have been temporarily reassigned pending the investigation. Contract negotiations with a private organization for the operation of the school have been put on hold. The Bureau is exploring the feasibility of a contractual arrangement for the school. They appreciate the support of the Council of American Indians and hope to resolve the matter quickly to strengthen the educational program at Chilocco Indian School.
