Scope and Contents

Mrs. Keith Hornady, an employee at the Chilocco Indian School, wrote to Representative Page Belcher about an increase in rent for quarters at the school. The Bureau of Indian Affairs explained that the increase was due to oversight in implementing utility charges in 1952 and that employees were not required to live in government quarters. The employees at the school expressed their dissatisfaction with the rent increase, stating that salaries had not increased and the quarters had not been remodeled. They felt the increase was unjustified and requested consideration for reclassification and salary adjustments. Representative Belcher assured Mrs. Hornady that he would look into the matter and provide her with more information once available.
