Scope and Contents

Mr. George Williams from Wilburton, Oklahoma wrote to Hon. Page Belcher, House of Representatives, requesting information on tax exemption for homestead allotments for the Five Civilized Tribes. Belcher forwarded the letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for clarification. The Bureau suggested Williams contact the Area Director for more information. Belcher assured Williams he would provide the information once he received it. Belcher also mentioned a report on House Resolution authorizing an investigation of Indian Affairs, which he sent separately. Williams expressed his support for President Eisenhower and requested updates on any changes in Indian policies.
