Scope and Contents

Herman Agoyo, chairman of the New Mexico Indian Education Board of Regents, testified before the United States Senate Interior Committee about the Johnson-O'Malley regulations and how they have been implemented in New Mexico. The Board supports the regulations and emphasizes local control, per capita distribution of funds, innovative programs, child-centered programs, and increasing Indian interest in education. The regulations have been beneficial in promoting these goals and increasing Indian involvement in the administration of Johnson-O'Malley funds.
