Scope and Contents

A student named Brenda Shoss from St. Louis, Missouri, wrote to Senator Dewey F. Bartlett requesting information on the American Indian for her Bicentennial essay. The letter was referred to the Office of Indian Education, who responded that they were unable to provide the information but referred her to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Smithsonian Institute, and National Indian Education Association for further information. The response was signed by S. Gabe Paxton, Jr., Division Director of the Office of Indian Education.
