Correspondence Regarding Concerns Over Proposed Debt Limit Increase, 1975-01-23
Scope and Contents
James R. Jones, a member of the House of Representatives, acknowledges receipt of a letter from Johnson D. Hill, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Atlas Life Insurance Company, regarding the Administration's request for a $103 billion raise in the debt limit. Jones expresses concern over the debt increase and supports efforts to restore a balanced budget and fiscal integrity at the federal level. He believes that cutting back on non-essential federal spending and stimulating the economy to get people back to work is essential. Hill suggests that the debt limit could be saved by ending the Vietnam War and transferring the administration of certain departments to the states.
