Scope and Contents

The letter addresses a complaint about Indian children attending a school in a filthy and diseased condition in Comanche County, Oklahoma. The Commissioner of Indian Affairs investigates the matter and finds that the Indian children attending the school were in a similar condition as the white children, except for one child with sores who will not attend until she regains her health. Efforts will be made to ensure that Indian children are sent to school in a clean and healthy condition in the future.
