Scope and Contents

Senator James Abourezk is advocating for the establishment of the American Indian Policy Review Commission to comprehensively review past policies regarding Federal-Indian relations. He believes that the current fragmented approach has hindered Indian development and led to frustration and despair. The Commission would consist of bipartisan members from Congress and the Indian community to assess past policies and make recommendations for future legislation to better serve the needs of Indian people. Abourezk looks forward to hearing from Administration and private witnesses on the proposed legislation.
