Scope and Contents
The Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs is requesting tribal leaders to review and respond to proposed legislation regarding the Indian Self-Determination and Educational Reform Act. The proposed amendment to the Johnson-O'Malley Act of 1934 includes limitations on funds, direct contracting with the Secretary of the Interior, establishment of local Indian parental committees, and an increase in funds for education support for Indian children. The legislation must be responded to by March 25, 1974.
