Debate Over Big British Loan: U.S. State Department's Perspective, 1945-10-10 - 1945-10-10

Scope and Contents

The State Department is arguing that the U.S. should grant a big loan to Great Britain, but the author questions why the U.S. should support a country that is considered a 2nd or 3rd rate power. The author questions giving up money on a long term basis and selling ships to Britain, which could potentially harm the U.S. economically. The author suggests setting up a union or economic basis to address labor and strike issues in the United States.
