Analysis of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Distributors' Margins: A Letter to George B. Schwabe, 1945-01-01 - 1946-12-31
Scope and Contents
The Office of Price Administration explains to Congressman George B. Schwabe the reasons for proposing a rollback in fresh fruit and vegetable prices at the distributor level. They conducted a survey to determine distributor margins, and after analyzing the data, determined a 10.9% rollback was necessary. The industry protested, citing rising expenses and differences in conditions from the survey year. The O.P.A. believes the rollback will benefit consumers by reducing retail prices. They refute claims that the rollback will benefit chain stores disproportionately and dispute figures on wholesalers' share of the consumer dollar.
