Request for Tax Agent Position, 1945-06-13

Scope and Contents

Bruce R. Sexton wrote a letter to George B. Schwabe, a member of Congress, asking for help in obtaining a position as a Tax Agent with the Treasury Department. Schwabe contacted the Internal Revenue people on Sexton's behalf and provided information about the application process for the position. However, Schwabe expressed concerns about whether the job qualifications aligned with Sexton's skills and also mentioned Sexton's passion for fox hunting. Additionally, Secretary Morgenthau announced a need for 5,000 more Treasury agents to address cases of tax evasion, citing a specific case of a restaurant owner in New York City.
