Inquiry into 1944 Income Tax Liability, 1945-10-22
Scope and Contents
George B. Schwabe, a member of the House of Representatives, received a letter from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue regarding a constituent's 1944 income tax liability. The Commissioner explained that the tax calculated by the Collector of Internal Revenue was correct based on the income and deductions of the constituent. The Commissioner detailed how the normal tax liability was determined and addressed a possible difference in the tax amount due to disallowed deductions. Schwabe forwarded this information to his attorney friend, William S. Caldwell, in response to a previous inquiry.
