National Defense Housing Act: Providing Housing for Defense Personnel and their Families, 1945-01-01 - 1945-12-31
Scope and Contents
This act aims to expedite the provision of housing for persons engaged in national defense activities and their families in areas facing housing shortages. It authorizes the Federal Works Administrator to acquire land, plan, design, construct, and maintain housing and community facilities. The cost of housing units is capped, and the Administrator is given authority to deal with property acquired under the act. The act also authorizes appropriations for carrying out its purposes and administrative expenses. It outlines provisions for the termination and disposal of property once the national defense emergency ends, as well as guidelines for wages and safety standards.
