Denied Priority for Residential Construction: Letter to Mr. James T. Dunn, 1946-08-22

 Item — Box: 3, Folder: 39
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_1_3_39_0001

Scope and Contents

The letter dated August 31, 1946, addressed to Mr. James T. Dunn informs him that his application for a priority to build a house for himself and his family was rejected. The Federal Housing Administration declined Mr. Dunn's application on August 7, stating that evictions are not recognized as a basis for exemption from the rule that authorizations for residential construction are issued only to veterans of World War II or persons building for veterans. The letter explains that granting a preference to veterans would require postponing the home building plans of non-veterans, including Mr. Dunn, until the production of building materials increases. The letter also mentions enclosing copies of previous correspondence with Congressman Schwabe and returning Mr. Dunn's letter and enclosures.
