Proposed Amendment for the Commandant of the Marine Corps to be Recognized as a Permanent Member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Scope and Contents

Senator Dewey F. Bartlett is proposing an amendment to change the law to reflect the current practice of the Commandant of the Marine Corps being a permanent member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Commandant has been participating in nearly all decisions made by the Joint Chiefs and is involved in a wide range of military issues. The amendment would simply correct an outdated law and remove unnecessary administrative processes. The Commandant's participation in the Joint Chiefs has been positive, and the amendment has received positive endorsement.
