Processing Claims for Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians' Coal Lands, 1949-09-26
Scope and Contents
Mr. Isaac Harkins wrote to Carl Albert regarding the claims of the heirs of deceased members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians for payment of their shares in connection with the sale of segregated coal lands. Carl Albert responded, explaining that payments are still being made to living enrolled members and that claims of heirs will be processed after this is completed. He also mentioned that due to the large number of claims, it will take time to determine legal heirs and the share each is entitled to receive. He advised Harkins to wait for the agency to give the claims attention as soon as possible.
