Revolutionizing Satellite Communication: The Future of Passive Satellite Technology, 1961-02-05
Scope and Contents
A new concept is being proposed by the Air Force to improve the effectiveness of Echo satellites by using a passive satellite with a radio lens reflector to focus reflected energy into a narrow beam. This new system aims to provide reliable radio relay links in a global communications network, with the potential to receive strong signals from ground stations 6,000 miles apart. The new satellite will be rigid to prevent deflation and will be tested on a smaller model suspended from a high-altitude balloon. The goal is to improve space technology and knowledge, even if the satellite is not ultimately built or used.
