Legal Implications of Contracts with Creek Nation Under P.L. 93-638, 1977-04-12 - 1978-12-31
Scope and Contents
This memorandum discusses the request of the Creek Nation of Oklahoma to rescind a decision limiting contracts under Public Law 93-638 with the Creek Tribe. The memorandum reviews a letter from the Chief of the Creek Nation and notes that a court injunction against the expenditure of funds becomes effective on September 1, 1978. It advises against taking any action contrary to the injunction and states that the decision to limit contracts with the Creek Tribe should not be changed based on the letter from the Chief. It also reminds the Area Director of regulations requiring a waiver from the Commissioner of Indian Affairs for certain actions on these contracts.
