Preserving the Muscogee Creek Language: A Call to Action, 1975-01-01 - 1975-12-31
Scope and Contents
The Creek language is disappearing among the Creek people, as shown by a survey that revealed low usage of the language. Reasons given for this decline include the need to learn English to compete in society, the influence of churches and schools, and a lack of emphasis on preserving the Creek language. It is emphasized that it is the responsibility of Creek people to hold on to their language and teach it to younger generations in order to prevent it from disappearing entirely.
