Solomon McCombs, a well-known Creek Indian artist and retired State Department official, is running for principal chief of the Creek Nation. He is expected to announce his candidacy at a press conference and is running against two other candidates. McCombs, who understands the Creek language, has outlined his priorities if elected, which include improving communication, education, health facilities, job opportunities, housing, and Creek arts and crafts. The primary election will be held on Aug. 16.
