Standing Alone: The Fight for Off-Reservation Indians' Rights, 1971-03-19
Scope and Contents
At a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Sub-Committee on Indian Affairs, Aileen Marengo Meyer and Gary E. Morigeau, representing off-Reservation Indians, oppose bills H. R. 3333 and H. R. 3830. They argue that many Flathead Indians have left the Reservation and are living successfully in mainstream American society. They believe that off-Reservation Indians should have the right to withdraw from the Tribe and have more control over their tribal assets. They criticize the Tribal Council for mismanagement and advocate for more equal distribution of tribal funds.
