Scope and Contents

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is a federally recognized tribe of Choctaw people. The approved Index and Final roll was closed by the United States Congress in 1907. Therefore, all descendants born after March 4, 1906 cannot be enrolled. However, the direct lineal descendants may apply for a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood card from the Bureau of Indian Affairs area or field office. The tribal office maintains a registry of Choctaws for voting purposes. Eligible applicants must be over eighteen (18) years of age, an enrollee or the descendant thereof. A minor cannot be registered until he /she reaches the age of eighteen, and on application. Applicants who submit their Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood with the registration form receive a voter's identification card, and their names are placed on the permanent registry.
