Transcript - Full
Senator Mark Hatfield of Oregon talks about Richard Nixon. I think Richard Nixon's understanding of young people is eloquently described when he proposes the abolition of the draft as soon as possible. This indicates to me his understanding of young people and their problems. Speaking of military matters, how do you feel about Richard M. Nixon concerning the Vietnam problem? I think any man such as Richard Nixon who recognizes the responsibility of the war should be upon the shoulders of the Vietnamese people and therefore has proposed the phasing out of American troops and the phasing in of Vietnamese troops indicates that he's not locked in to the errors of the past of this administration's policy in Vietnam. Therefore, I feel he can lead us out of the war in Vietnam and proposes diable and believable alternatives. Thank you.
