Hello, I'm John Kennedy. Our present immigration laws are completely unfair and discriminatory. We, even though Italy and England may have the same population, we permit ten Englishmen to come in for every Italian. We permit about 300 Portuguese, about the same number of Greeks. We permit very few Poles or Lithuanians, Czechs or Hungarians or Yugoslavs or Romanians or Bulgarians. It discriminates against Southern Europe and Eastern Europe. All this was done in the McCarran-Walters Act, which was vetoed by President Truman. I voted against the bill. I voted to sustain the President's veto. Mr. Nixon voted for the bill. He voted to override the President's veto. I believe we should do better. I believe we should be fairer. And I hope the next Congress and the next President will write a fair immigration law. Vote Elect John F. Kennedy for President.
