Johnson largely defending private covenants forbidding the sale, lease, gift or grant of property to African Americans as not violating the latter's constitutional rights (esp. under the 5th, 13th, and 14th Amendments) , but noting some of the legal obstacles in enforcing such covenants by the then-Supreme Court and Chief Justice Fred Vinson's decision in Shelley v Kraemer (May 3, 1948)
